Putin Orders Mass Strikes on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure in Retaliation

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced massed strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities during a September 1 press conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, calling it retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy sites.

Overnight into September 2, heavy drone and missile strikes hit Odesa—damaging a 24-story residential building, a gas station, and other sites, injuring eight including a child—and the Kyiv region, causing power outages and fires.

Putin declared all Ukrainian military facilities, including British ones, as legitimate targets, while Ukrainian officials described the attacks as hitting civilians and infrastructure amid ongoing restoration efforts.
