Kenya's IEBC Defends Diaspora Voter Registration Rights for 2027 Elections

Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission issued a statement countering claims of illegal voter registration, emphasizing that citizens with valid IDs or passports can register anywhere under Articles 82 and 88 of the 2010 Constitution.

The commission uses biometric systems at approved centers and has seen no evidence of malpractice, while planning to expand diaspora registration from 12 to 26 countries to include more of the 1.46 million Kenyans abroad.

Many online voices celebrated the inclusivity, noting high diaspora remittances and urging border communities to participate in the 2027 vote.
