Dr. Duncan
Oburu Ojwang takes over as Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight
Authority, succeeding Justice Ahmed Issack Hassan who left for the Court of
Appeal in February.
Nominated in July and approved by parliament in August, Ojwang brings experience as Dean of Law at Africa Nazarene University and teaching at the University of Nairobi, with U.S. degrees in constitutional law and human rights.
The IPOA investigates police complaints, monitors operations, and pushes for better accountability amid public talks on reforms. Some online voices raised doubts about cronyism and true independence in presidential appointments.
