Uganda's PLU Denies Political Party Plans Amid Muhoozi Succession Push

The Patriotic League of Uganda, chaired by Muhoozi, insists it will stay a civic group and pressure movement within the ruling National Resistance Movement, not form a political party.

Despite this, PLU launched a nationwide signature drive across 146 districts to back Muhoozi's declared run for president in 2031, with supporters like MP Hajji Abdul Bisaso pledging their votes.

The Economist portrayed Uganda darkening under fading presidential restraint and labeled Muhoozi a 'comically conceited nepo-baby,' drawing sharp local defenses, while PLU claims Museveni's endorsement amid efforts to build broad backing.
