Kenya's
Ministry of Education has banned politicians from directly handing out
donations like bread, soda, and cash at schools, requiring all contributions to
flow through official channels instead. The move targets visits that disrupt
lessons and risk turning students into political props before the 2027
elections, with Education Secretary Julius Ogamba calling them a 'Trojan horse'
for selfish gains.
Officials note these events often involve photos and videos for publicity, interrupting programs and endangering children's rights, while many praise the policy for safeguarding learning but question if high-profile figures will follow it.
