Patricia Nyaundi Mande nullified President William Ruto’s June and September
2025 directives reserving 20 percent of affordable housing units for teachers
and police, saying they lacked any legal basis under the Affordable Housing
Act.
Now, these
public servants must apply like all other Kenyans aged 18 or older who haven't
received a unit before, with priority only for vulnerable groups set by the
Affordable Housing Board.
The ruling upholds the rule of law while letting the housing program continue nationwide, sparking views of it as a step for equality though some see lost rewards for key workers.
