Kenya's
annual inflation rate jumped to 7.3% in October from 6.8% the month before, the
highest since mid-2023 and just shy of the Central Bank's 7.5% upper target.
Transport prices rose 17.1% year-on-year, food
and non-alcoholic beverages climbed 10.2%, and core inflation edged up to 4.3%,
with petrol, diesel, and milk seeing sharp monthly increases.
The Central Bank kept its benchmark rate at 8.75% last month expecting stability, but analysts note the strain on families and businesses as these costs ripple through the economy ahead of the December policy decision.
