Uganda Orders Arrests to Stop Citizens Voting in Kenya

Uganda's First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga directed authorities in eight border districts like Busia, Tororo, and Moroto to monitor and arrest citizens trying to register as Kenyan voters ahead of the 2027 election.

The order followed a KTN News report alleging Ugandans were getting Kenyan IDs to vote, though Kenya's electoral commission called those claims unsubstantiated and misleading. Both nations affirm respect for each other's sovereignty amid shared border ties in family and trade, highlighting tensions before Kenya's August 10, 2027 vote.
