The
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former deputy Rigathi Gachagua, took
the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on Thursday with 56.7 percent turnout amid
reports of violence.
This marked a sharp drop from 2022, when Ruto
claimed 78 percent of the presidential vote there, signaling voter
disillusionment in a key area expected to deliver over 25 percent of national
votes in 2027.
Analysts see it as a proxy battle post-Gachagua's 2024 impeachment, with UDA conceding while debates rage over Ruto's path forward without Mt. Kenya loyalty.
