DCP Landslide Victory Shakes Ruto's Grip on Mt. Kenya in Ol Kalou By-Election

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former deputy Rigathi Gachagua, took the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on Thursday with 56.7 percent turnout amid reports of violence.

This marked a sharp drop from 2022, when Ruto claimed 78 percent of the presidential vote there, signaling voter disillusionment in a key area expected to deliver over 25 percent of national votes in 2027.

Analysts see it as a proxy battle post-Gachagua's 2024 impeachment, with UDA conceding while debates rage over Ruto's path forward without Mt. Kenya loyalty.
