Ngotho of the Democracy for
Citizens Party secured 35,440 votes against United Democratic Alliance's Samuel
Muchina Nyagah's 5,450, with all 144 polling stations reporting, according to
IEBC results announced early Friday.
The by-election followed the March
2026 death of MP David Njuguna Kiaraho and became a key test between President
Ruto's UDA and Rigathi Gachagua's DCP in the Mt Kenya region ahead of 2027
polls.
Despite violence at polling stations—including armed men firing teargas and assaulting journalists—voters showed vigilance, escorting ballot boxes to the tallying center, while leaders from both sides called for unity.
