Tanzania's CCM Expels Nchimbi and Nominates Ndejembi for VP

Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) expelled former Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi from membership after he resigned the post, citing a prior pledge to step aside if President Samia Suluhu Hassan wanted change.

The decision came during an August 26, 2026, meeting in Dar es Salaam, where the party found he violated discipline and ethics rules, possibly linked to his recent call for a new constitution.

They unanimously nominated Energy Minister Deogratius John Ndejembi, a 43-year-old MP, to replace him, with his name now headed to parliament for approval. Nchimbi, sworn in less than a year ago, has stayed silent on the expulsion.
