Kenyan Activist Mulinge Muteti Missing After Besigye Protests in Nairobi

Human rights defenders report that Kenyan activist Mulinge Muteti, also known as Boniface Mulinge Muteti, disappeared in Nairobi on Monday amid demonstrations demanding the release of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye from his ongoing treason trial.

He was allegedly taken by security officers before reaching the group, prompting a missing person report at Central Police Station on September 23 under OB reference 46.

Lawyer Kadide Francyy highlighted that Kenyan law requires anyone arrested to appear in court within 24 hours, a rule not followed here, while campaigners use #FreeMulingeMuteti to demand his immediate whereabouts and release. Kenyan police have not commented on his status as regional political tensions rise.
