Korean President Lee Jae Myung stated Friday that Seoul will not deploy troops
or military assets to support the U.S. in its conflict with Iran, despite
speculation about involvement in the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway.
He emphasized South Korea's longstanding principle of non-involvement in wars, while allowing minimum activities to protect its merchant ships, oil routes, and citizens through the existing Cheonghae Unit.
The decision prioritizes safeguarding trade interests without risking entanglement in combat or foreign command.
