Kenya Lionesses captain Sheilla Chajira has expressed optimism and confidence ahead of the Africa Women’s Sevens, set to take place on November 15–16 at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

As the clock ticks down to the 2025 Africa Women’s Sevens kicking off tomorrow, November 15-16, at Nairobi's iconic RFUEA Grounds, Kenya Lionesses captain Sheilla Chajira is channeling pure optimism and unshakeable confidence. With the home crowd advantage and a stacked squad, the Lionesses are primed to chase continental glory and dethrone reigning champs South Africa – all while showcasing Kenya's vibrant spirit beyond the pitch.Chajira, a veteran leader who's been with the national team for a decade and doubles as head coach for Kenya Harlequins Women's side, didn't hold back in her rallying cry. "I want to warmly welcome all the teams to Kenya! There’s more to Kenya than rugby, but I encourage everyone to come. Tell a friend to tell a friend — come watch us in action!" she declared, inviting fans to pack the stands and turn the event into a celebration of sport and culture. It's not just talk – this tournament is a golden opportunity for the Lionesses to reclaim the crown they won once before and boost their bid for core status in the HSBC SVNS Series.
Coach Simon Odongo has assembled a powerhouse 13-player roster, blending experience with fresh talent. Chajira leads as captain, with Grace Okulu and Janet Okello as co-captains – Okulu fresh from her stint with Racing 92 in France, and Okello jetting in from Japan. Standouts include Safari 7s star Naomi Amuguni (who racked up a 6.5 Tisini rating with two tries), debutants Ann Namunyak and Nelly Chikombe, and reliable forces like Christabel Lindo, Sinaida Nyachio, and Freshia Awino. The Lionesses landed an "easy" pool draw, but they're not taking anything for granted. Historically, Kenya has been runners-up multiple times, and this year they've already toppled South Africa thrice in the 2025 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series
