The projects will expand the 175-kilometer Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway and the 58-kilometer Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha stretch into dual carriageways with four to six lanes. A public-private partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation and Kenya's National Social Security Fund, the $1.54 billion work starts now and aims to finish in two years, creating 15,000 jobs. These vital routes saw 284 deaths in 2024 and 168 in 2023, and Ruto called them a gateway to prosperity for East African trade.
