Kenya Fuel Prices Surge with Diesel Up KSh 46 to 242.92 in Nairobi

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority raised diesel to a maximum of KSh 242.92 per litre in Nairobi and super petrol to KSh 214.25, effective from Friday until June 14, due to a 20% jump in global import costs from Middle East tensions.

Kerosene held steady at KSh 152.78 to shield low-income cooking needs, while the government used KSh 5 billion from a levy fund to curb even sharper increases. Energy Secretary Opiyo Wandayi highlighted ample stockpiles and a VAT cut to 8%, but critics warn of inflation from diesel's role in logistics, with Kenya's prices now exceeding neighbors like Uganda and Ethiopia.
