The U.S. Senate approved a $70 billion
reconciliation package on a 52-47 party-line vote, funding ICE with $38.6
billion, CBP with $22.6 billion, and other DHS operations through 2029.
The bill includes provisions for ICE to
immediately arrest criminal noncitizens released from sanctuary city jails and
over $100 million for child exploitation investigations.
Republicans celebrated it as protection against future obstruction, while Democrats called it a blank check for deportations; intense GOP infighting also marked failed attempts to attach voter ID requirements from the SAVE America Act.
