Trump Launches $300 Million Grants to Fight Urban Violent Crime

The new Model Cities Initiative offers nearly $300 million in grants to two to four large U.S. cities that create full public safety plans, funding more police hires, better equipment, training, drug programs, youth prevention, and targeting repeat offenders.

Memphis saw violent crime fall 42% since a federal push started September 29, 2025, with murders down 40% and car thefts 65%; D.C. reported homicides dropping 54%.

Applications opened right away, due September 1, 2026, with Trump urging locals to push their leaders to join for safer streets.
