since early May 2026.
The High Court on May 29 blocked the setup over concerns of
lacking public participation and biosecurity risks, but operations continue,
sparking road-blocking demonstrations by hundreds of residents fearing health
threats to their tourism-dependent community.
Local leaders and doctors decry the lack of consultation, while
the case heads to a full hearing on June 2, straining Kenya-US relations.
