Kenya Breaks Ground on Major SGR Extensions to Kisumu and Nairobi CBD

Construction has begun on the 370-kilometer Phase 2B and 2C SGR extension from Naivasha through nine counties to Malaba on the Ugandan border, including a branch to Kisumu Port.

The project, costing KSh500-700 billion, aims to handle 22 million tonnes of freight yearly, cut logistics costs by 40%, and speed up transit times like Mombasa to Kampala.

In parallel, a 15-kilometer commuter link from Syokimau to Nairobi CBD is out for tender to ease city travel, reduce traffic, and boost security. These steps promise jobs, regional trade growth, and easier access to western Kenya's farms and Lake Victoria.
