Sifuna's
movement, which broke from ODM to form an opposition platform meaning 'Protect
the Citizen' in Swahili, faced a registration block over claims by the Liberty
National Democratic Alliance (LINDA) Party.
On Tuesday, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal allowed Sifuna's group to reserve 'The Mwananchi Party' while halting 'Linda Mwananchi' registrations for others, with the case resuming September 14, 2026.
Both sides claim prior rights—LINDA since November 2024 with nationwide members—and the fight could influence Kenya's opposition ahead of 2027 elections.
