MP Peter Kaluma Injured in Kasipul By-Election Clash.

Kaluma, observing for Orange Democratic Movement candidate Boyd Were, was assaulted Thursday at Agoro Sare Primary School in Homa Bay's Kasipul Constituency. He blamed men linked to independent candidate Philip Aroko, calling them criminals from Nairobi slums and Kisumu, while his guard lost a firearm in the fight. Some locals said Kaluma tried to sway officials, and photos showed a man like him pinned down; the electoral commission then barred candidates from stations. The by-election follows the April 2025 killing of Were's father, the area's second MP lost to violence, amid a tense race testing party loyalties under heavy security.
