Kenya Prepares for Ebola as Laikipia Quarantine Plan Draws Protests

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale told Parliament on Wednesday that Kenya has no Ebola cases, with robust defenses like screening 74,000 travelers and ready isolation units at hospitals including Kenyatta National Hospital's 8-bed setup.

He defended a controversial 50-bed quarantine site at Laikipia Air Base without public consultation, citing emergency powers under the Public Health Act, though protesters worry it serves exposed U.S. staff and risks community health.

The High Court suspended operations pending review of risks and agreements, while officials stress priority for Kenyans amid the DRC outbreak that has killed at least 60.
