Kenya Raises Police Constables' Salary by 36% to Sh29,360

The government completed the final phase of a three-year salary review recommended by the David Maraga-led Taskforce, boosting basic pay for police constables, prisons officers, and youth service members effective July 2026.

Ruto announced this on August 28 at the National Police College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, alongside new uniforms including maternity wear for pregnant officers and welfare improvements like better housing and healthcare.

While some see it as vital progress for professionalism, others debate if the amount covers living costs in places like Nairobi or truly reaches officers after deductions.
