The
tripartite agreement between Mombasa County, Mombosa Free Zone Ltd, DP World,
and GulfCap Group launches a 535-acre Special Economic Zone near Mombasa Port,
backed by over US$100 million initial investment.
It aims to draw manufacturing, logistics, and export firms, creating 8,000 to 10,000 direct jobs in the first phase while boosting local suppliers and transporters.
Ruto called it key to Kenya’s economic agenda, targeting completion in six months with new road access and low electricity tariffs; GulfCap's Suleiman Shahbal hailed it as his 15-year dream realized, though some note concerns over DP World's regional disputes.
