Netherlands Moves 86 Tonnes of Gold Reserves to London

Between March and August 2026, the Netherlands relocated 86 tonnes of gold from New York and Ottawa vaults to London, citing increasing geopolitical unrest and the need for quicker access in emergencies.

The operation mixed sales in New York with purchases in London and physical transport of over 27 tonnes via a secure facility in Zeist, improving tradability under modern standards at the Bank of England.

This raises London's share of their 612.4 tonnes total to 32.1%, following similar moves by France and amid global central banks' rush to diversify reserves at double the prior pace.
